Mental Health Support Unite

Psychological counseling is a science concerned with addressing psychological and behavioral problems suffered by individuals (university students and employees, whether teaching, employees or workers) in an attempt to fix them on a personal, collective, educational or professional scale. Services are available for all individuals, males and females, married and single, widows and divorced. The mentoring division at the University comes to provide periodic assistance to both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as teachers and staff.

 

Unit objectives

  • Receiving new students and preparing them psychologically for university academic life
  • Providing appropriate psychological and social conditions for study to help students to raise their scientific level to the maximum possible degree
  • Providing students with scientific, psychological and social guidance information that will benefit them in acquiring skills to face and solve the problems that confront them according to their abilities and capabilities
  • Providing psychological and social advice and counseling that seeks to develop students psychologically and socially.
  • Paying attention to studying some negative behaviors and phenomena that may affect students ' academic progress and working on methods of prevention and treatment of these negatives
  • The unit directs students to some physical and community activities to take advantage of free time

Unit duties

  • Taking into account privacy in the information that students give to the mentor, whether it is personal or confidential information
  • Students have the freedom to choose an educational advisor
  • Solving social, behavioral and educational problems with complete confidentiality
  • Receiving positive proposals and opinions aimed at serving students

Some of the activities carried out by the unit

The psychological counseling and educational guidance unit at Nasiriyah Technical Institute organizes a workshop on (the impact of hate speech on students)

The psychological counseling and educational guidance unit, in coordination with the Department of Legal Administration techniques at the Nasiriyah Technical Institute, organized a workshop entitled (The impact of hate speech on university students and its reflection on national identity), through which Dr. Aseel Kamel Aseel, head of the Department of Legal Administration techniques, attended.

The workshop discussed the effects of hate crimes and their direct danger to society, as well as their threat to the fundamental rights of individuals, as they threaten the psychological and emotional stability of the entire society and generate a fertile environment for ideas and practices encouraging aggression against the other and destroying the factors of stability and security of society.

The workshop recommended the following:

1. Combating misinformation and negative stereotypes.

2. Preparing educational programs for young people and the general public

3. Providing advice, support and guidance to university students and supporting them.

4. Promote, support and facilitate the reporting of cases of the use of hate speech by targeted persons and witnesses.

 

The workshop was attended by Professor Dr. Khawam Raysan Hussein, dean of the Nasiriyah Technical Institute and assistant professor Dr. Ali Abdul Hakim al-Bakka, and a number of professors, associates and students of the Institute.
