The Sustainability and Environment Unit organized a specialized workshop entitled “Hidden Effects of Radio Communications on Public Health”, presented by Prof. Dr. Walid Abdul Jalil Awad on Tuesday, 26/11/2024. which aimed to explore the invisible effects of wireless communications, including mobile phones and Wi-Fi networks, on human health. The workshop came within the framework of promoting community awareness and highlighting the relationship between technological progress and growing health concerns, with a focus on building on reliable scientific studies to illustrate potential impacts.
Workshop themes :
1. Introduction to wireless communications:
The evolution and high prevalence of wireless communication techniques in various aspects of everyday life, as well as the most important uses of these technologies in diverse sectors, were reviewed.
2. Potential Health Effects:
The workshop discussed the impact of electromagnetic radiation from wireless devices on the human body, focusing on concerns about long exposure to low and high frequency radiation, as well as providing a glimpse of the varying studies on these effects.
3. Preventive measures:
The workshop addressed practical strategies to reduce exposure to electromagnetic radiation, as well as the role of governments and companies in rationing radiation levels to ensure the safety of individuals, and the need to adhere to global safety standards.
Recommendations and Conclusion:
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of enhancing collaboration between researchers and decision makers to study the health effects of wireless radiation more deeply. It also stressed the need to raise awareness of the importance of the safe use of technology, while continuing to develop safer technologies that contribute to supporting sustainable development.
The workshop is one of the initiatives aimed at balancing the use of technological progress and ensuring the safety of the community against the potential risks discussed at the Continuing Education Center.
