Researcher Dr. Saad Faraj Hamza, Head of the Medical Laboratory Fluctuations Department at the Basra Technical Institute within the Southern Technical University, obtained a patent from the Central Agency for Quality Measurement and Control. This patent included the production of surfactants from local bacterial strains isolated from point sources for the first time in Iraq, and it was granted. Using molasses and local frying oil as sources of carbon, it aims to be able to use these compounds as an alternative to their industrial counterparts that are used in oil extraction recovery processes, as they are bio-produced materials that are low-cost and environmentally friendly.
