The Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Alaa Farid Abdul-Ahad, attended the first meeting of the Industrial Advisory Council at Basra University of Oil and Gas, representing the President of the Southern Technical University. The meeting was organized under the slogan of the academic-industrial partnership to reduce the gap between the outcomes of higher education and the private, public and joint sectors. He stressed the importance of developing curricula to serve the labor market, specifically in the field of oil and gas, and striving seriously to bridge the gap between universities and the private and public sectors, as well as establishing real work partnerships and cooperation between universities and professional institutions, whether in the government or private sector, in addition to the importance of surveying the needs of companies. Participants in the meeting stressed the need to develop skills for students, including computer language and communication skills, while emphasizing the importance of integrating sustainability into all specializations, working to keep pace with technological developments in professional work, and embracing innovations. Scientific talents and activating entrepreneurship initiatives in order to motivate and support young people to produce and strive seriously to develop their capabilities in the labor market.
