The Basra Technical Institute within the Southern Technical University organized an awareness seminar on cataracts or the so-called cataract causes and methods of treatment. The seminar, which was attended by ophthalmologist Dr. Maytham Hashim al-Mousawi, included topics such as types of cataracts in the eye, including nuclear cataracts, cortical cataracts, as well as posterior subcapsular cataracts, in addition to other types, including congenital cataracts and immature cataracts. The lecturer explained the symptoms of the disease, how it is diagnosed and the causes that lead to its occurrence, pointing out that the most important treatments for this disease are the use of stronger lenses for glasses; to improve vision for a certain period or the use of lenses coated with anti-glare materials and surgical intervention if necessary. The seminar concluded that cataracts are dangerous to the eye, which causes great difficulty in distinguishing shapes and faces and difficulty in reading, as well as colors appear less intense
