On the occasion of the activities of the sixteen days devoted to combating violence against women, the Shatrah Technical Institute, in cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the Southern Technical University and the Iraqi Creators Syndicate, Thi Qar Governorate branch, organized a conference via cyberspace entitled Violence against Gender – Policies and Solutions.
The conference, which came with wide participation from Arab and foreign countries, aims to discuss issues of violence against women and work to reduce this bad phenomenon.
A professor in Sociology and Development at the College of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad and a consultant at the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Adnan Yassin Mustafa explained in his lectures the problem of drug addiction, backwardness and ignorance, based on statistics and charts that show the importance of the problem.
Jurist and professor of international law, Dr. Najm Abdullah Nasser, presented a research paper dealing with violence against women, referring to Law No. 41 and the importance of amending it, setting out litigation procedures and the most important recommendations resulting from his practical experience.
The conference will be concluded by Dr. Sophia Razzaq Al-Tamimi, a teacher at the Shatrah Technical Institute, and the representative of the Women’s Empowerment Unit in formation, the representative of the academics at the institute. The most important laws that dealt with violence against women within their chronological sequence.
In conclusion, the conference recommended increasing activities towards violence against women, using all media means for this purpose, and working to increase the culture of society towards this issue.
