The teacher Safana Kadhim Jasim from the Nursing Technology Department at the Basra Technical Institute within the Southern Technical University obtained a patent for the preparation of a new compound as an antibiotic.
The patent included the preparation of a new beta-lactam compound derived from benzothiazole and the active substance in black pepper (pipronal) with biological activity as an antibiotic prepared for the first time.
The patent showed how to prepare a new derivative containing the active group in antibiotics known as beta-lactams. The new compound was diagnosed using spectroscopic methods and accurate elemental analysis.
The analyzes confirmed the correctness of the new derived chemical composition and tested the antibacterial activity of a number of bacterial isolates diagnosed by PCR technique for positive and negative bacteria.
This patent was part of a research team under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Wasfi Abbod Al-Masoudi and Prof. Dr. Bassam Yassin Khudhair from Basra University – College of Veterinary Medicine.
