The Continuing Education Center within the Southern Technical University organized a training course on the IVSL Iraqi Virtual Scientific Library.
The course, which was lectured by the female teacher at the Technical College of Engineering in Basra, Mrs. Sarah Abdul-Ilah Al-Jasim , included the development of the virtual library in light of the developments of modern information and communication technology, and the importance of such libraries in advanced societies because of the products its provide that contribute to the acquisition of rapid, accurate and diverse information.
The course aims to train workers in the field of paper and virtual libraries on the working mechanism of these libraries, its development and enhancing its role in community service without all of this leading to the absolute abolition of the traditional library.
The session concluded with the necessity of planning and developing new work mechanisms for the establishment of this type of libraries in line with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasizing the need for qualified librarians and information specialists who perform their functions in improving their services and setting strategic plans for that.
