The Supervision and Evaluation Authority / Student Activities Department in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research organized the southern region football qualifiers for the halls on the stadiums of the Southern Technical University and Basra Oil Club. The tournament included teams of universities of Dhi Qar, Sumer, Wasit, Al-Maqal University, Al-Kunuz, Al- Basra University, Shatt Al-Arab College, as well as Al-Ain University, Iraq College, Basra University for Oil and Gas, in addition to the Southern Technical University. The activities of the tournament began with a speech by the President of the Southern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Rabie Hashem Thejil Al-Abbasi, in which he congratulated everyone for starting this tournament and wished them an honest competition. After that, the participating teams reviewed from the salute platform and played the Iraqi national anthem, then chanted the championship oath and read Surat Al-Fatiha for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq. Representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Haider Aufi, said in his speech that the importance of student sports activities in general represents an important axis of belief that sports have a major role in developing the bonds of love among students before it becomes an axis for winning or losing. From his side, the representative of Basra University, Prof. Dr. Sabah Mahdi Karim insist that this sports tournament and other sports activities are part of the work of the ministry and universities, in order to add an atmosphere of excitement and suspense, and even promote the health aspect. Assistant President of the Southern Technical University for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Salem Thamer, insist in his speech that the sports tournaments implemented by Iraqi universities and in various games worked greatly in providing national teams and teams with youth energies that contributed to obtaining international, Arab and local tournaments, being an important source that goes into the depth of Qualification and pursuit of success. Pointing out that the importance of student activities in general and sports activities in particular represent an important axis of building an integrated personality. Hence, the Southern Technical University has given student activities a wide space to move according to the contexts called for by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research by stimulating creative energies, not only in sports, but also in cultural and scientific activities in an effort to enhance the intellectual and physical level of students. Then the opening matches between the Southern Technical University team and Wasit University, ending with a score of 3 to 2 Wasit University wins. The tournament witnessed a distinguished presence of students, affiliates and media professionals.
