Sponsored by the Rector of the Southern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdullah Ateeq , The Continuing Education Centre at the Southern Technical University held a scientific workshop entitled:
“The impact of sulphur and heavy elements of oil-accompanying gas on the soil and the productivity of Wheat and Barley in northern Basra.” The workshop was held on Wednesday, 11th of December 2024, and was presented by Professor Mohsen Abdel Hay.The workshop aimed to highlight the negative environmental impact of oil-accompanying gas, including the impact of sulfur and the heavy elements that this gas produces on the soil, and how these factors can affect the productivity of agricultural crops such as wheat and barley in north of Basra. The results of scientific studies aimed at finding scientific and practical solutions to reduce the impacts of these pollutants on the region’s environment and agricultural crops in the area.The workshop is part of the Southern Technical University’s ongoing efforts to promote scientific and environmental awareness and stimulate scientific research on pressing environmental issues in the region.The workshop was attended by a number of academics, researchers and those interested in the environmental and agricultural field, where the dimensions of the topic were discussed and ideas and experiences were exchanged.
