Basra Technical Engineering College held a workshop on combating human trafficking,
presented by Lieutenant Colonel Muntadher Kadhim from the Community Police in Basra Governorate, as part of the National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking for the year (2023-2021), in the presence of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Balasim Hashem, and the presence of the Assistant Dean of the College for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Dhiaa Kamel Shari, the teaching staff and students of the college. The workshop dealt with advice, guidance and the legal position on human trafficking crimes and activating cooperation between citizens and security forces to report trafficking crimes through the numbers designated for reporting suspicious cases. The workshop lecturer stressed that human trafficking is the buying and selling of individuals for purposes related to forced labor, sexual slavery, and sexual exploitation for commercial purposes through smugglers and other beneficiaries, pointing to the role of educational institutions in combating this phenomenon and addressing it by spreading cultural awareness in society. The Dean of the College thanked and appreciated the workshop lecturer for activating aspects of joint cooperation between government institutions.
