The Basra Technical Institute at the Southern Technical University implemented an awareness campaign to combat the scourge of desertification, including university formations within the governorate. Student groups carried out campaigns on a large scale to plant important areas and maintain other green spaces, and to encourage citizens about the importance of collective and educational work to reduce the phenomenon of desertification and encourage sustainable agriculture. The Dean of the Institute, Assistant Professor Dr. Arkan Yaqoub Yousif, explained to our media that this campaign came in line with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the follow-up of the university presidency and in cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Division, where work was done to implement a program concerned with green spaces and their sustainability, through the distribution of educational and awareness-raising posters as well. About distributing permanent flower seedlings to some university formations and security personnel in Basra Governorate, and the campaign continued for two days.
